Female etiquette always depends on male etiquette. Because male etiquette dictates etiquette, in whatever the official event,ceremony or social event requires. • Cocktail Dress
This is a day dress, this is a type of dress that is between the short and long dress. The length of this type of dress should be at the knee or just below. It is more elegant than the shorter length. The fabric will depend on the type of the event and climate and may range from wool to satin.
To correspond to a dark suited male {half etiquette}, the fabric of the dress should be simple, while if accompanying a tuxedo it will be more elaborate and rich in the details. The necklines will be discrete. Strong colors are much better in the daytime than at night. A hat may be used with a cocktail dress during the day. This complement is considered an outer garment, so it must always be removed at the same time as the coat. A perfect complement is the headdress, but unlike the hat they will remain in place throughout the event.
The handbag should be small and of materials such as metal, tortoiseshell or fabric with rhinestones. Never place the handbag on the table however small it may be. • Short Dress
This has few differences from the cocktail dress, although there are some. The short dress is a dress for the day and its shape is very clasic. The length should be above the knee or just below.
The fabric also will depend on the type of event and climate but its shape will be much simpler. The necklines tend to be more discreet, in the case of short day-dress, than cocktail day-dresses.

• Long Dress
The long dress corresponds to the male etiquette, to the tuxedo and the tailcoat. Also known as night dress, long dress is the most elegant garment in women’s etiquette. It must be elegant in the shape, fabric and its style. Although the legs can not be seen with this type of dress, tights always have to be worn. If the dress doesn’t wear sleeves, long gloves may be used. The shortest length of this type of dress, should be to the ankle, but normally the length goes all the way to the ground.
Long dress can also have a wide skirt, a mermaid fit, long tail and many others types and styles, seeking to enhance the figure of the female body or otherwise trying to conceal certain forms and volumes. If the dress is very low cut or shoulders are barely covered, it must be cover during a religious ceremony with a shawl, stole or jacket. Shoes should be of high and thin heels, but also may wear sandals if the climate permits.
The bag should be small in size and with materials such as metal, tortoiseshell, with embroidery, silks or sequins. Never hang it of your shoulder, as it is more elegant and refined take it in hand. It is preferable to wear little jewelry, but that of good quality.

La Etiqueta femenina
La etiqueta femenina depende siempre de la masculina, ya que es la que marca la etiqueta, en función del acto o acontecimiento social. Ocasionalmente, en las invitaciones destinadas a determinados actos, se especifica sobre el vestuario femenino como por ejemplo «traje corto o de noche», sin embargo, lo correcto es que se especifique la etiqueta masculina y en función de ella así deberán vestir las damas.
Veamos la correspondencia que existe entre ambas tipologías de vestimenta.

• Vestido cóctel
Es un vestido de día, este tipo de vestido esta, entre el vestido corto y el largo. El largo del vestido debe de estar por debajo de la rodilla, incluso hasta media pierna, es más elegante que el corto. El tejido dependerá del tipo de evento y del clima, pudiendo variar desde la lana hasta el satén.
Para equiparar a un traje oscuro masculino de media etiqueta, el tejido del vestido debe ser sencillo, mientras que si acompaña al esmoquin, será más elaborado y rico en detalles. Los escotes serán discretos. Es más habitual que los colores durante el día, sean más fuertes que durante la noche.
Se podrá utilizar sombrero. Este complemento se considera como una prenda externa, por lo que se debe quitar siempre al mismo tiempo que el abrigo. Un complemento perfecto son los tocados, pero a diferencia del sombrero, permanecerán en su sitio durante todo el acto.
El bolso de mano debe ser pequeño y de materiales como el metal, carey o tela con pedrería. Nunca se debe depositar encima de la mesa por muy pequeño que sea. Se coloca sobre las piernas y se tapa con la servilleta. Los zapatos han de ser de media altura, aunque también están permitidos los de tacón alto. No debéis olvidar las medias. Y como consejo, se deben evitar las gafas de sol.

• Vestido corto
Tiene pocas diferencias respecto al vestido de cóctel, aunque si hay algunas. Es un vestido de día y generalmente de corte clásico. El largo debe de ser por encima de la rodilla o justo por debajo de esta.
El tejido también dependerá del evento y del clima, pero su elaboración será mucho más sencilla. Los escotes suelen ser más discretos que en el vestido de cóctel.

• Vestido largo
Corresponde a la etiqueta masculina, tanto al esmoquin como al frac.También se le conoce como traje de noche. Es la prenda de más vestir en la etiqueta femenina, debe ser elegante en la forma, tejido y elaboración. Aunque las piernas no se vean, siempre hay que llevar medias. Si el vestido no lleva mangas, se podrán utilizar guantes largos.
El largo del vestido deberá ser a la altura del tobillo, el más corto, pudiendo llegar hasta el suelo. También puede tener una amplia falda con vuelo, ser de corte sirena, con cola y de muchas otras formas diferentes, buscando realzar la figura del cuerpo femenino o por el contrario disimular ciertas formas y volúmenes.
Si el vestido es muy escotado o los hombros están al descubierto, se deberán cubrir durante una ceremonia religiosa, con un mantón, chal, echarpe, estola o chaqueta. Los zapatos deben ser altos y de tacón fino, pero también se podrá llevar sandalias si el clima lo permite.
El bolso debe ser de tamaño pequeño y de materiales como; metal, carey, con bordados, sedas o con lentejuelas. Nunca se colgará del brazo, es más refinado y elegante cogerlo en la mano. Es preferible llevar pocas joyas, pero que sean de buena calidad.
